Future of Events for Connection workshop

A recurring topic in our recent discussions with members is the future of events and how to prioritise connection. More activities are returning face to face - for some that is brilliant, but none of us want to exclude people who cannot or don't feel safe meeting in person. The cost of living crisis and working arrangements have, and will continue to, impact people’s ability and willingness to travel. Virtual events have helped many organisations reach a wider audience in new ways.

We’re left with a lot of questions: Are hybrid events the future? What are the barriers to doing this well? Do we have to learn another way of doing things, when we’re still exhausted from the rapid adaptations and changes in the past 2 years? Who has tested some possible solutions? How can we help each other navigate these questions and challenges?
This workshop is our first to help Connection Coalition members and supporters explore these questions, together. As ever, we are not promising any answers! But we can guarantee some connections with others who are exploring similar themes and shared challenges, and will be giving a platform to a range of community organisations on things they’re trying and testing and what’s working so far.

Aims of the workshop:

  • Give people a chance to explore their challenges with knowing if/how to return to face to face events
  • Share different ideas and solutions groups have tested
  • Offer connections with others exploring similar questions
  • Identify what support is needed to help people move forward with confidence
